Candied Yams

Although the name is deceptive, as this dish is made with sweet potatoes, not yams, it’s a Thanksgiving tradition that brings back warm memories for many.

6 large sweet potatoes

1 1/2 teaspoons cinnamon

1/2 teaspoon nutmeg

1/2 teaspoon allspice

1/2 cup raw sugar

Preheat oven to 400 degrees Fahrenheit.

Wash sweet potatoes and use a steak knife or prong to “stab” the potatoes, making small incisions about 1-2 inches apart.

Place on a lined baking sheet and bake for 50 minutes, or until tender when poked with a fork.

Allow the sweet potatoes to cool for 15 minutes.

After baking, the skin of the sweet potatoes will separate from the flesh. Peel the skin away over a large bowl and let the insides fall into it.

Use a hand mixer to thoroughly blend the sweet potatoes.

Add spices and sugar.

Spread out evenly in a large, greased baking pan.

Top with miniature marshmallows.

Broil at 350 degrees Fahrenheit for 15 minutes, or until marshmallows are toasted.
