This pie is perfect served straight from the oven and tastes great a la mode.
Ingredients
Filling:
4 small or 3 large ripe pears
1/4 cup raw sugar
1 teaspoon cinnamon
1 teaspoon ginger
1/2 teaspoon cloves
1/2 teaspoon nutmeg
1/3 cup flour
Topping:
1/2 cup whole wheat flour
1 tablespoon butter, chilled and cubed
1/2 cup raw sugar
3/4 teaspoon baking powder
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 large egg
Preparation
Preheat oven to 325 degrees.
Dice pears into half inch cubes.

Mix all the filling ingredients in a large mixing bowl.

Stir the pears into the filling bowl so that all surfaces are covered.
Pour into pie crust.

Mix all dry topping ingredients in a small bowl: flour, sugar, baking powder and salt.

Beat large egg and pour into filling, mixing with a fork.
You may want to use your hands to make sure it is fully mixed, as they will be touching the topping in a moment anyway.

Cut chilled butter into small cubes (as small as you are able).

Mix in with the topping ingredients.

Press thin sections of the topping between your fingers and place on top of the pears, until the whole pie is covered.

Bake at 325 for 40 minutes.
Let cool 5-10 minutes.
Best served warm.
