Potatoes Au Gratin


3 large potatoes

1 onion

2 cups of extra sharp cheddar

1 tablespoon butter

1/4 cup milk

1/4 teaspoon salt

1/4 teaspoon pepper

Preheat oven to 400 degrees.

Slice potatoes 1/4 inch thick.

Cut onion into thin slices.

Place potatoes and onion facing up in a large (2.5 liter) baking dish.

Shred cheddar.

Melt butter in small saucepan.

Add cheddar.

Add milk, salt and pepper.

Stir until completely blended.

Pour sauce evenly over potatoes and onion.

Cover dish with foil.

Bake at 400 degrees for 1 hour.

Uncover dish and bake another 15 minutes.
