Alphabetizing can be a very difficult concept for many children to learn. It is incredibly abstract. When children see words on a page and must constantly look back and forth or up and down while simultaneously singing the alphabet song in their heads and counting which letter they are on…it’s enough to give anyone a headache.
Instead, have children follow this simple method for grasping alphabetizing:
Step 1: Write out the words they need to alphabetize on this template.

Step 2: Cut out each word separately.

Step 3: Line the words up on another copy of the template and move them up and down as much as needed until they are in the right order.

Step 4: When words are correctly alphabetized, glue them into place.
